The case was adjourned to April 28 after the CB-CID told the Ooty District Sessions Court that it had collected evidence, including mobile phones, and sent them for examination.
The Nilgiris: The Ooty District and Sessions Court has adjourned the hearing of the Kodanad heist-cum-murder case to April 28.
The Kodanad estate owned by late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her aide Sasikala in Nilgiris district is spread over an area of about 800 acres, and also houses a luxury bungalow to accommodate late former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa during her visits to Nilgiris.
On April 24, 2017, a heist-cum-murder an took place in the Kodanad estate bungalow in which the watchman Om Bahadur was killed. Jayalalithaa's former car driver Kanagaraj, Sayan from Kerala, Valaiyaru Manoj and 11 others were allegedly involved in the murder and robbery.
Kanagaraj, the first accused, died in a road accident near Salem. Following this, 10 people, including Sayan, have been named as accused and all of them are currently out on bail. The case has been underway in the Ooty District Sessions Court for the last five years. The case has now been handed over to the CB-CID police and came up for hearing on Tuesday.
Public prosecutors Sajahan and Kanagaraj appeared before the court. Only DSP Annadurai appeared on behalf of the CB-CID police and Sayan and Valaiyaru Manoj appeared on behalf of the accused.
During the hearing of the case, the CB-CID police stated that it had collected evidence from telecom companies about the transfer of various cellphone information and sent it for examination. The CB-CID police also sought time till the results were out. Thereafter, the Court posted the matter for further hearing to April 28.
