Priest electrocuted to death in temple near Dharapuram

In a tragic incident, Balasubramani, the priest of a temple in Dharapuram in Tirupur district, died after being electrocuted while trying to repair an unlit lamp.



Tirupur: Balasubramani (58), son of Thangavel, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Thirumurugan Poondi 1st Street, Tirupur. He is working as a priest at the Veereswara Swamy Temple, the family deity of a particular community, at Old Kottamettu Street in Dharapuram.

Since it was Ammavasai day, he came to the temple from Tirupur in the afternoon, cleaned the temple and switched on the lights. At that time, the lights were not on. As a result, while he was in the process of repairing it, he was accidentally electrocuted. Balasubrahmanyam fainted and fell down.



The devotees, who had come to perform puja at the temple, were shocked to see the priest faint and fell down and rushed him to dharapuram government hospital in a private ambulance. The doctors there examined balasubramaniyam and said that he was already dead.

Following this, the Dharapuram police were informed. Based on this, a police team led by Inspector Manikandan visited the government hospital and the place where the incident took place and registered a case and are investigating further.

Balasubramanian, the priest of the temple, is survived by his wife Jamuna Rani, 55, and two sons. The incident of the death of a temple priest due to electrocution on the day of Ammavasai has caused a lot of grief in the old Kottaimettu area.
