Farmers gherao Dharapuram sub-collector's office - Heavy police security

In Dharapuram, the farmers of the high-rise tower, who were affected by the non-payment of compensation for the last three years, gheraoed the sub-collector's office and staged a protest. As a result, more than 100 police personnel were deployed there for security.



Tirupur: Power Great and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation limited, which come under Dharapuram and Kangayam assembly constituencies in Tirupur district, are farmers affected by high power tower projects. Demanding payment of compensation for standing compensation crops and coconut trees pending for the last three years, on Friday, more than 100 affected farmers tried to lay siege to the Sub-Collector's office in Dharapuram.



In this situation, talks were held with the Sub-Collector of Dharapuram and the affected farmers.



The farmers affected by the high-rise towers told the sub-collector that the farmers had not been given proper compensation for the last three years. After that, talks were held. He said the government will disburse the compensation immediately within 24 hours. The strike was temporarily called off after it was announced that compensation would be paid.

Moreover, even after more than 20 years of acquisition of land for the construction of Nallathangal dam, the compensation amount should be paid immediately, they said.



Eesan, the founder president of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association, said, compensation for land for farmers affected by bio-electric towers, compensation for crops is yet to be paid to a section of farmers. A total of 1800 survey number 980 has been issued. Despite the construction of a high-rise tower for the farmers and several representations to the district collector, tahsildar and other officials over the last three years. The government is implementing it in a complacent manner.

As a result, the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association had announced that there would be a wait-and-watch protest. In the talks held by the Revenue Divisional Officer on the sidelines of the protest, "i will document the distribution within 24 hours so that it will be distributed to the farmers of Kangayam Dharapuram area immediately," he said.

He said steps would be taken to fix the compensation for the farmers who are yet to be compensated. Similarly, it has been 20 years since nallathangal dam gave 750 acres of land. It is condemnable that no compensation has been paid even after six years of the verdict, he said.
