With the number of patients suffering and deaths due to swine flu H1N1 is on a rise in our city, the death of two more people has set the alarm bells ringing. As swine flu is a contagious disease that could spread from one person to another, the increase in number has created a sense of panic among the public.
It has been reported that Palaniammal aged 57 and Vasantha Mary from K.G. Chavadi area in Coimbatore were suffering from fever for the past 10 days.
They were undergoing treatment at the private hospital in K.G. Chavadi.
After the patients underwent tests, doctors confirmed that they are affected by the H1N1 virus, swine flu.
The two patients were admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital (GH), where they were undergoing intensive treatment. However, the two died yesterday at the GH.
Since last December (2016) the number of people who have died of swine flu is 19 and another five patients have died with possible symptoms of swine flu.
It has also come to light that presently 35 people are undergoing treatment at GH for swine flu, seven people for dengue and another 22 people are yet to be diagnosed.
