35 villages struggling without drinking water: The consequences of road widening in Kundadam

Thirty-five villages, including Kokkampalayam and Muthayampatti, have been without enough drinking water for the past nine months as a result of road expansion construction in the Kundadam area near to Dharapuram.

Tirupur: Water connections were affected in 35 villages as a result of road widening construction in the Kundadam area near Dharapuram.

The Cauvery Combined Water Supply Scheme and the Amaravathi Water Supply Scheme provide drinking water to the villages in the Kundadam Panchayat Union.

Furthermore, borewells are built by the panchayat administration in the different villages, and water is drawn from them and provided via a pipeline. Water is pumped from the Cauvery River to Kundadam Jamb via Muttur, Kangayam, and Veedur.

Water is pumped from there to Mettukadai and Jump, from where it is distributed to approximately 35 villages, including Nandavanampalayam, Kokkampalayam, Muthayampatti, and Periya Kumarapalayam.

Because most borewell water from panchayats cannot be utilised for drinking or cooking due to high salt or saline content, drinking water from the Cauvery Combined Water Supply Scheme is used for cooking and drinking.

In this case, the water pipeline connecting Kundadam and Mettukadai Jamb was completely broken as a result of road widening construction. As a result, the water supply to all of the following 35 villages has been fully disrupted for the last nine months via the Cauvery Combined Water Supply Scheme.

People go to agricultural estates, bring water in pots, and pay money for cleaned drinking water. Drinking water is a concern in some areas now that the summer season has begun. As a result, the general populace is in need of drinking water.

Although the Palladam-Dharapuram road expansion construction has been completed, the water pipeline has yet to be fixed, according to the public. Only by building a new water pipeline will drinking water be available. However, the authorities do not appear to have made any attempts in this regard thus far.

The problem is immediately fixed by installing a pipeline from the side of the Kaliamman temple at Eragampatti to mettukadai jump on the drinking water pipeline from Kundadam to Manurpalayam. As a result, the appropriate authorities should take note of the situation and take action to address the drinking water issue.
