Congress cadres try to gherao Udumalpet railway station protesting against disqualification of Rahul Gandhi

As congress workers tried to gherao the Udumalpet railway station to protest against the removal of Rahul Gandhi as MP, the police, who were on security duty there, tried to stop the protesters by erecting barricades.



Tirupur: Congress workers who tried to gherao the Udumalpet railway station to protest against the removal of Rahul Gandhi as mp were stopped by the police.

A Surat court on Monday sentenced Rahul Gandhi to jail in a case filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly spreading defamatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surname. Following this, he was stripped of his MP post.



Protesting against this, more than 100 Congress cadres tried to stage a rail roko protest at Udumalpet in Tirupur district.



The Congress workers, who had come in a procession from the municipal park, tried to enter the railway station.



At that time, the police put up barricades and stopped them from entering.



They then raised slogans condemning the central government. Following this, all those who came to lay siege to the railway station were arrested by the police.

K Thennarasu district president Govindaraj, Janardhanan, IT and social media department state secretary Dr S R S Ibrahim, state general council member P Kittusamy, K Kannusamy, R Muruganandam, city president Ko Ravi, vice-president R Muthukumar, block presidents Kanagarajan, A S Venkatesh, P Chellakumar district general secretary Chinnasamy, Kudanthai Kannan and Congress office-bearers were among those who participated in the blockade.
