AITUC protests in Coimbatore over 12-hour work bill passed for private companies

AITUC activists led by the former Communist Party of India (CPI) MLA Arumugam staged a protest in Coimbatore against the Bill to increase working hours in private companies from 8 to 12 hours.


Coimbatore: AITUC staged a protest in Coimbatore against the Bill to increase the working hours of private companies in Tamil Nadu from 8 hours to 12 hours. The bill was introduced in the State Assembly on Friday but was opposed by various political parties, workers and the general public.

Meanwhile, the AITUC staged a protest in front of the BSNL office near the Coimbatore District Collectorate, against the increase in the working hours duration in private companies.



More than 50 people participated in the protest, demanding the repeal of The Factories (Amendment) Act 65. Demanding the withdrawal of the increase in the eight-hour work to 12 hours, they raised slogans against the Tamil Nadu Government demanding the withdrawal of the amendment to the law which takes away the rights of workers. The protest was led by Arumugam, a former MLA of the Communist Party of India.
