Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin is set to unveil a seven-feet-tall statue of Kappalottiya Thamizhan V.O. Chidambaranar would be mounted on behalf of the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation.
Coimbatore:It has been announced that a full-fledged statue of Kappalottiya Thamizhan V.O. Chidambaranar will be installed soon in Coimbatore.
M K Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, will soon unveil a 7-feet-tall statue of the VOC at Coimbatore. V.O. Chidambaranar, a freedom fighter, was arrested by the British government and imprisoned at Coimbatore Central Jail.
He was subjected to various tortures at the time, including the pulling of oil-press . In 2021, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had announced that a full-fledged statue of Semmal V.O.C. would be installed in Coimbatore to commemorate his sacrifice.
Following this, on behalf of the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation administration, the VOC was formed. A 50-feet-wide and 45-feet-long plot of land adjacent to Avinashi Road was earmarked for the installation of the statue.
Subsequently, the construction of the statue started. In this case, the statue has been completely erected and the work has been completed. According to the district administration, a full-size metal statue has been erected for the VOC on behalf of the Public Works Department at a cost of Rs 40 lakh.
The platform is set up at a height of 4 feet above the ground and a pedestal is said to be erected at 7 feet and on top of this a 7-feet-high statue is placed.
The statue was made of metal from the idol making centre at Ramavaram in Chennai and brought to Coimbatore and installed. The final stage of work, including painting the stage area, is currently underway.
Chief Minister M K Stalin will soon inaugurate it either in person or through video conferencing. Preparations are underway for the same.
