Public demands capture of Makhna elephant in Pollachi

Farmers In Pollachi have requested the forest department to capture the elephant before it suffers any loss of life as the Makhna elephant, which has again come out of the forest area, has entered the agricultural estate and damaged it.

Coimbatore: The public has requested the forest department to capture the Makhna elephant.

In Dharmapuri district, the Makhna elephant, which was captured by seduction, was released in topsilip area, a dense forest area in Pollachi's Anaimalai Tiger Reserve.

The elephant had left the forest area on February 22 and entered the village and was heading towards Coimbatore.

But now that the radio collar has malfunctioned, the forest department is struggling to keep track of the elephant's movement.

In this situation, Makhna leaves the forest area for the second time and enters the agricultural estate in Pollachi's Saralapathi area.

Three kumki elephants from Topsilip have been called in to prevent the elephant from entering the farmland and the forest department is patrolling the elephant and keeping an eye on the elephant.

However, the elephant did not go into the forest area and left the forest area and entered the agricultural estate and damaged 57 mango trees and several coconut trees in the area.

Similarly, people in the area are very afraid of moving around, fearing that the Makhna elephant may come at any time and attack humans and that it may re-enter the agricultural land and damage the agricultural crops.

In this regard, the residents of the area stated that because of the elephant, they have been sleeping in the homes of the children all night without protection, and that the forest department should take immediate action to capture the elephant and keep it in a cage before it causes any loss of life. They have requested that they be relocated to another location.
