Engineers association demands for Formation of Separate Council for Building Engineers in Tamil Nadu

The Building Engineers' Association has urged the Tamil Nadu government to set up a separate council for engineers to weed out fake engineers in the state and reduce the prices of construction materials.

Tirupur: The inauguration ceremony of the new office bearers of Palladam Building Engineers Association was held at Rayarpalayam near Palladam in Tirupur district.

In 2022, former office-bearers of the association, who held key positions, were given momentos and draped in ponnadais and presented with souvenirs.

Shilpi Selvaraj was sworn in as the new president of Palladam Building Engineers Association for the year 2023, with Mohanakannan as vice president, Dhanapal as secretary, and Pon Sakthivel as treasurer.

The former office-bearers greeted the newly sworn-in office-bearers by wrapping them in ponnadis.

Speaking to reporters later, Mohan Raja, former president of the Federation of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Building Engineers, said that there are 10,000 building engineers and 50 lakh workers dependent on the construction industry across Tamil Nadu. The prices of construction materials are increasing day by day.

Similarly, the number of fake engineers who have not graduated is also on the rise. Therefore, in order to bring down the prices of construction materials and weed out fake engineers, the Government of Tamil Nadu should immediately set up a separate council for engineers, just as there is a Bar Council for the medical department and lawyers. A separate board should be set up for building engineers.
