Coimbatore: The Railway Board has approved the master plan of the Coimbatore Junction Redevelopment which is now under review & set for approval by the GM, Railways.

Southern Railways has been entrusted with the project which will be taken up on PPP mode.

With reference to above, the remarks for the question No. (a), pertains to Planning Section (CE/P&D Portion) are furnished below:

Question No.{a): It is speculated that the Redevelopment of Stations such as Kumbakonam and MGR Central are in OPR stage, Avadi is in Initial Planning Stage whereas Coimbatore is just fisted and no activity has taken place yet. If so, why has this been an ordinate delay only for Coimbatore Raitway Station Redevelopment?

Remarks: Coimbatore station was identified for redevelopment well before during 2019 and initially entrusted to IRSDC. Due to closure of IRSDC, this station was entrusted to RLDA during 2022 for techno economic feasibility study and preparation of master plan.

The consultancy tender has already been awarded and Railway Board has provisionalty approved the master plan. Master plan is reviewed by GM and under process of approvat of GM.

Moreover, this station has been entrusted to SR to take up the redevelopment work on PPP Mode during Mar 2023 whereas the other Stations referred are in consultancy stage only.

Hence, there is no ordinate delay for Coimbatore railway station with regard to development works.
