Crane used to clear uprooted trees in Coimbatore skids

The crane was being used to clear fallen trees brought about by heavy rains that lashed Coimbatore's Race Course and R.S.Puram areas.


Coimbatore: A crane that was being used for clearing uprooted trees after heavy rains lashed Race Course and R.S. Puram areas in Coimbatore, skidded amidst the clearing work.

No casualty was reported since people in the area had moved away when the work was underway.



Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed several places in Coimbatore on Wednesday night including R.S. Puram, Race Course, Gandhipuram and Ukkadam.

Motorists in Coimbatore city were inconvenienced due to waterlogging at various places.

Traffic was also diverted due to waterlogging under various flyovers in the city.



Meanwhile, some trees along the roadside in R.S. Puram and Race Course were uprooted.

A car was damaged when a tree fell on it in the Race Course area.

Similarly, in R.S.Puram, an old tree fell on the roadside causing power lines to break, and hence power supply was disrupted in the area.

Meanwhile, the work of clearing uprooted trees has been going on since this morning.



A crane had to be used in the clearing work but while removing the trees, the crane vehicle accidentally skidded.

A major casualty was averted in the area since people in the area had moved away. At present, the work of removing the crane with the help of two other cranes is in progress.
