Viswa (19) of Thoothukudi and Neelakandan (19) of Ramanathapuram were arrested for threatening a house in Meena Estate area of Coimbatore at midnight and extorting mobile phones and Rs 50,000 in cash.
Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a gang of four persons broke into a house near Coimbatore and snatched mobile phones and Rs 50,000 in cash.
Praveen Kumar (21) hails from Thangappapuram in Ramanathapuram district. An engineering graduate, he had gone to Meena Estate in Coimbatore for his friend's birthday party.
Since it was his friend's birthday on The 4th, Praveen Kumar had planned to go on a picnic the next day after the birthday party in his room. Praveen Kumar reportedly stayed in his friend's room for this.
In the middle of the night, a gang of four men barged into their room. They threatened them with a knife and snatched a mobile phone and Rs 50,000 in cash from the two men and fled from the spot.
Praveen Kumar lodged a complaint with the Peelamedu police station. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Viswa (19) from Thoothukudi and Neelakandan (19) from Ramanathapuram district for snatching the mobile phone and cash.
They are also on the lookout for Kasturirangan and Karuppu alias Dinesh, who are absconding.
