Van collides with roadside shop near Kovai Kutralam in Coimbatore; Elderly tribal man dies

A minivan headed towards Kovai Kutralam from Virudhunagar in Coimbatore collided with a shop near the Kovai Kutralam check post in Coimbatore, seriously injuring Rangan, an elderly tribal man from Vellapathi Adivasi village, who later died.



Coimbatore: In a tragic accident, an elderly man from a tribal village was killed when a minivan lost control and rammed into a roadside shop near Kovai Kutralam in Coimbatore.

Rangan (66) is the son of Ayyavu, a native of Vellapathi Adivasi village in Sadivayal, Coimbatore. He was working as a labourer and had gone to buy goods from a shop owned by one Rangaraj near Kovai Kutralam check post in Coimbatore.



While Rangan was emerging from the shop after purchasing the goods, a minivan coming from Virudhunagar district and headed toward Kovai Kutralam lost control and rammed into the front portion of Rangaraj's shop. 



Rangan who was standing nearby was hurled afar and seriously injured. 



Rangan was rescued by passers-by and rushed to the nearby Karunya Hospital. Doctors there concluded that Rangan's condition was critical and hence referred for him to be rushed to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment. 



Rangan, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit there succumbed to his injuries.

The Karunya Nagar police who have registered a case in connection with the accident, arrested the driver of the minivan, Vijay (24), a native of Chettikurichi in Virudhunagar. Rangan is survived by his 18-year-old helpless granddaughter.
