Case of pouring acid on coconut trees at Puthupalayam near Palladam: victim alleges no action by police

On April 25, Subramanian allegedly poured acid on 40 coconut trees belonging to Kavin Kumar on the night and the trees were completely destroyed. Kavin Kumar had lodged a complaint with the Avinasipalayam police station but the police did not take any action and delayed it.



Tirupur: Case of pouring acid on coconut trees at Puthupalayam near Palladam - The victimised farmer complained that the police had registered a case against the person who poured acid on the orders of the court but did not take any action.

Demand for compensation as 40 coconut trees have dried up. Kavin Kumar is the son of Jeganathan, a resident of Puthupalayam panchayat near Palladam in Tirupur district.

He has planted and grown around 300 coconut saplings on his four-acre land. Kavin Kumar and his neighbour Subramanian are said to have already had a land dispute.



On April 25, Subramanian allegedly poured acid on 40 coconut trees belonging to Kavin Kumar on the night and the trees were completely destroyed.



Kavin Kumar had lodged a complaint with the Avinasipalayam police station but the police did not take any action and delayed it.

Kavin Kumar, a farmer, said he had made several representations to the district collector and agriculture department officials seeking compensation for the wilted coconut trees and action against the person who poured acid, but no action was taken.

Kavin Kumar, a farmer, had filed a case in the Palladam court in this regard. The judge, who heard the case 20 days ago, immediately registered a case with the Avinasipalayam police on the incident. It directed that the person who poured the acid should be investigated and a report should be filed. The Avinasipalayam police registered a case under three sections against Subramanian and his wife Kavitha as per the court order.



Even after 15 days of registering the case, the police are yet to arrest Subramanian and his wife Kavitha.



The agriculture department has so far not paid any compensation to the 40 affected coconut trees. Kavin Kumar has also demanded a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for 40 coconut trees.
