The Athikadavu Avinashi project will begin operations from next month - Chief Engineer

The Athikadavu-Avinashi project is 90 percent completed. The trial run is currently taking place, and the project is expected to be fully operational by next month, said Sivalingam, chief engineer, water resources department.


Coimbatore: The Athikadavu-Avinashi project will be completed next month, says water resources department chief engineer Sivalingam.

A consultative meeting for farmers benefiting from the Athikadavu-Avinashi project was held at Kunnathurampalayam near Annur under the chairmanship of Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department Sivalingam.

In the meeting, the officials briefed the farmers on the current status of the works carried out under the Athikadavu-Avinashi project and the trial run.

Furthermore, because the project is expected to be completed in a few months, it is suggested that suitable irrigation plans be developed. The officials also advised the farmers on the safety of the implements and electrical equipment installed in the village ponds under the scheme.

Following that, Chief Engineer Sivalingam of the Water Resources Department told reporters. The athikadavu-Avinashi project is 90% finished. Since February, a trial run has been conducted to continuously fill the ponds with water. The project will be fully operational next month.

The project will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The project will irrigate 24,000 acres of agricultural land in Coimbatore, Erode and Tirupur. This is what he said.

The meeting was attended by farmers from the surrounding areas of Annur and the Athikadavu-Avinashi project protest team.
