Coimbatore: More than 100 persons were arrested, including Congress state working president Mayura Jayakumar, after trying to stage a rail roko in response to the dismissal of Rahul Gandhi's petition in the Rahul Gandhi case.

In 2019, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi addressed an election rally in Karnataka. A Surat court has sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in jail in a case filed against him for making controversial remarks on Modi's name. So Rahul Gandhi lost his MP post.

Rahul Gandhi had petitioned the Surat Sessions Court for an interim stay on the verdict in the defamation case. However, the sessions court granted him bail but declined to impose an interim stay of execution on the verdict. He subsequently went to the Gujarat High Court.

Meanwhile, a Gujarat court dismissed Rahul Gandhi's request for a stay of his two-year jail term.

The Gujarat high court further stated that the Surat court's decision was correct and that it could not interfere in it, adding that at least ten criminal cases were pending against Rahul Gandhi.

Congress workers have been holding protests at various places across the country against the Gujarat high court's verdict.

As part of this, more than 50 Congress workers, led by party's state working president Mayura Jayakumar, arrived at the central railway station to lay siege to the train and were halted by the police at the entrance of the railway station itself.

Following this, the Police arrested the Congress party members and took them away when they tried to lay siege to it.
