The accused Manivel was taken into custody for the murder of a 35-year-old lady who was indulged in household work in one of the VIP homes at Ramanathapuram. During the investigation was revealed that the accused had strangled the victim who suffered suffocation, following which Manivel had raped and murdered the victim.

According to official records, Manivel, a native of Srirangam in Trichy District, worked as a driver in one of the VIP homes at Ramanathapuram. In the same zone, the victim worked as a housemaid. On 17.05.2018, taking advantage of the absence of the owner, Manivel invited the victim to carry out household cleaning late evening.

Reportedly on the same day, the accused had raped and murdered the victim. According to witnesses, by midnight the same night, Manivel was seen dumping a heavy gunny bag in a car. In this regard, the victim's husband had filed a missing case at the local station.

On May 21, 2018, Singanallur police were informed of an unidentified decomposed body found in a drainage cana in the area. After further investigation, it was identified that the recovered body was the missing lady. In this case, a special investigating team was formed. Two days later, with major witnesses and evidence, the police identified the accused Manivel. He surrendered and confessed to the crime sequence. It was also revealed that he had buried the victim's jewels on the lawn of the same house.

"This case was one of the challenging and complicated cases," said Special Public Prosecutor B Jisha, who appeared on behalf of the victim. It is difficult to find a murder witness and prove that the woman was raped in this scenario. The ambiguity came when there arose a statement about whether the victim was raped before or after the murder. The autopsy reports and the elaborate explanation of the doctor played a crucial role to substantiate an act of rape before murder."
