Escalators and lifts will be constructed at the Mettupalayam station as part of the Amrit Bharat initiative, which has been allocated 10 crore to improve facilities. The same sum has been allocated to Coonoor and Ooty railway stations for the same purpose. The Railway Ministry has sanctioned a separate 15 crore for track modernization, he said.

Divisional Railway Manager of Salem Division Pankaj Kumar Sinha said the NMR train services have been fostering tourism and economic growth.

In his address, Selvaraj sought reduction in the ticket fare of the Mettupalayam-Coimbatore MEMU service from the existing 30 to the preCOVID rate of 210, and extension of express trains bound for Coimbatore to Mettupalayam for bringing about the desired economic growth through tourism- related activities.
