25TH meeting of divisional Railway Users consultative committee of Salem Division held

The DRUCC members were unanimous in their appreciation of Salem Division for its noteworthy performance. In particular, they mentioned with gratitude the operation of Vande Bharat Express Trains between Coimbatore – Chennai and placed their requests for running more such trains from Salem Division.



The 25th Meeting of the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) of Salem Division was held today (21.07.2023) in the Office of the Divisional Railway Manager, Salem. Pankaj Kumar Sinha, DRM/Salem Division, P. Sivalingam, Additional DRM/Salem Division, M. Boopathiraja, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, Anith Prakash, Sr. Divisional Operations Manager and other Officials of Salem Division participated in the meeting.



M. Boopathiraja, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager/Salem Division & Secretary/DRUCC welcomed the members. Thereafter, the railway officials and DRUCC members introduced themselves. Of the 27 members of DRUCC/Salem Division, 16 participated in this 25th meeting held today.



As the meet proceeded, M. Boopathiraja, Sr. DCM gave a presentation on the Performance Highlights and Achievements of Salem Division. Salem Division is performing well in all aspects. Vande Bharat services between Coimbatore – Chennai were introduced on 08.04.2023 and are receiving overwhelming patronage. Special Trains are being operated to meet the extra rush of passengers.

A pair of weekly special trains is being run in NMR also. The Division is also attentive to the requirements of passengers. Foot Over Bridges, Lifts, Escalators, Toilet Facilities, Differently-abled friendly initiatives, etc have been provided in many stations. Retiring rooms are available at major stations. Even small stations have been provided with minimum essential amenities, added the Sr. DCM.

This was followed by an elaborate discussion on points spelt out by the DRUCC members. The members expressed various requirements such as operation of new train services, increasing the frequency of existing trains, provision of stoppages, extension / construction of platforms, provision of lifts and escalators, ROBs / RUBs, development of railway stations, etc. The officials listened to all the requests carefully and took note of them.



While some requirements could be fulfilled soon, others would be considered and forwarded to higher authorities for necessary action, they responded. 15 railway stations in Salem Division are being developed under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and most of the demands / requests placed by the members would be taken care of through this scheme, they added. The officials also made clear to the members the various constraints and limitations with regard to enhancing services, developmental activities, etc.

Pankaj Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division & Chairman, DRUCC presided over the meeting. He appreciated the enthusiastic participation and involvement of all the members. While stating that Salem Division is doing well in meeting the requirements of passengers, he assured the members that the officials of the Division would look into the demands and suggestions placed today with concern and do their best. The DRM added that many works pertaining to strengthening of infrastructure are being executed.

Anith Prakash, Sr. Divisional Operations Manager delivered the Vote of Thanks. He appreciated the members for participating in the meeting and assured them that their demands will be carefully considered and necessary action will be taken. He added that officials of Salem Division are open to receive suggestions and consider requirements of the travelling public and that the members may feel free to communicate with the officials.
