For the past six months, the Tamil Nadu Non-Party Farmers' Association has been filing a complaint with the Tirupur District Collector and Dharapuram Divisional Officer, highways department officials and municipal commissioner's office, demanding immediate action against those who are collecting illegal fees from those who have encroached on the dharapuram-pollachi road in Tirupur district.
Accordingly, on the orders of the Tirupur district collector, the officials arrived with vehicles on Thursday to remove the pavement shop encroachments near pollachi road municipality higher secondary school by the highways department.
At that time, the trolley shopkeepers and roadside shopkeepers came together to protest against the vacating of roadside shops.
Following this, Dharapuram municipal council president Pappu Kannan and municipal councillors reached the spot and held talks with the public.
At that time, the public complained that they had traditionally been running shops in the same area and had taken loans from private banks relying on trolley shops and if they were asked to take up shops suddenly, their livelihood would be affected and they would be forced to repay the loan taken from the bank.
After that, every year we pay the specified rent amount to the municipal administration properly. They appealed to the municipal administration to conduct a survey and take our money and allow us to continue running shops in the area.
Following this, the mayor informed the pavement vendor that he would talk to the councillors in the coming municipal council meeting and take a good decision.
After that, he told the highways department officials that he would discuss the issue of vacating the shop and collecting the toll in a few days and informing the highways department officials. Following this, the work of removing roadside shops has been temporarily stopped, leading to a commotion on pollachi road.
