A Sambar deer fell into a reservoir tank in Akkamalai area and died. The forest department and the fire department rushed to the spot and recovered Sambar deer's body and conducted a post-mortem and buried the body.
Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a Sambar deer fell into a water tank in Akkamalai Estate near Valparai and died.
There is a reservoir in Akkamalai near Valparai in Coimbatore district. The water from the forest area is stored in the River Karumalai Estate area and is being supplied to Valparai as drinking water through a pipeline.
A 12 ward member, forest department and fire department were informed that a Sambar deer had fallen into the water tank this morning and was unable to come out.
The fire department and forest department officials who rushed to the spot went near the tank and found a Sambar deer lying dead. Also headed by Valparai Municipal Engineer.
With the help of sanitation workers, the fire department went into the water and tied a rope around Sambar deer's body and recovered the body from the water.
Forest officials said the red dog and leopards may have slipped and fell into the water while chasing the Sambar deer to hunt near the forest and the Sambar deer may have been 5 years old. The forest department conducted an autopsy of the dead Sambar deer and buried it.
