The movement of wild elephants in Vadavalli, Thadagam, Mangarai, Periyanaickenpalayam and Marudhamalai areas of Coimbatore district has been on the rise in the recent past.
In recent times, there have been frequent incidents of wild elephants entering the village from the forest area. Wild elephants entering the village damage the farmlands there and leave.
Sometimes they also eat the fodder kept for the cattle and leave. Not only that, they also eat up the items kept in the ration shops and damage them.
Sattva Avenue is located in Karunya Nagar near Alandurai in Coimbatore district. There is a house owned by advocate Jayakumar here. There is also a cowshed near the house.
The house has two entrance gates and a lone Tusker, which came at night, broke open the small gate and entered the cowshed and ate the fodder kept for the cows in the cowshed.
When Jayakumar came out of the house on hearing the sound of stray dogs barking and breaking the gate, he came out of the house and hit the torch and found that a wild elephant was eating things from the cowshed.
He then switched on the torch light and broke open another gate and left. While leaving, he saw the Ganesha idol inscribed on the front compound wall of the house and lifted the trunk and gestured as if he were saluting.
The incident was captured on cctv cameras installed at Jaikumar's house.
Similarly, in August 2018, an elephant came here and gestured to Vinayaka as if he were saluting him by lifting his trunk.
