Coimbatore: Responding to the demand of the people of Kongu region, the Southern Railway has decided to run one more special express train from Kollam in Kerala to Tirupati via Coimbatore on two days a week.
The intercity express train is being operated from Coimbatore to Tirupati on three days a week. This has greatly helped the passengers from the Kongu district. So on those days, more than 500 people booked an intercity train and returned from the journey.
Since more than 1,000 people are booking the Coimbatore-Tirupati train in a single day, the availability of a seat in that train is a big hit.
Hence, the devotees of Kongu region had demanded that more special trains should be run to Tirupati. The Southern Railway has decided to run a special train from Kollam in Kerala to Tirupati via Coimbatore twice a week. This has also been approved by the Central Railway Board.
Accordingly, the special train with 21 coaches will leave Kollam at noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays and arrive at Coimbatore at 6 pm. It will reach Tirupati at 3.20 am the next day. Similarly, the special train will leave Tirupati at 2.40 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays and reach Coimbatore at 10 pm on the same day.
