Coimbatore: To promote the skills of differently-abled persons in Coimbatore, a marathon called Run for Wheel was held at Ganga Spine Rehabilitation centre premises in Kavundampalayam.
More than 100 differently-abled men and women from different parts of Tamil Nadu participated in the event, which was jointly organized by The Chituli Foundation and Ganga Hospital.
In order to spread awareness about sports among all sections of the society, it was attended not only by the differently abled but also by the common man. Earlier in the day, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar and Corporation Commissioner Prathap inaugurated the marathon.
More than 1,000 participants, including differently-abled persons, participated in the competition which was held in three categories - 3, 5 and 10 km.
At the end of the marathon, the wheelchair basketball tournament in which the leading players of the Tamil Nadu wheelchair basketball team participated, left the spectators in a tizzy.
