Coimbatore: Government doctors protesting demanding fulfilment of their demands said that their strike did not cause any inconvenience to the patients.

More than 30 government doctors wearing black badges staged a sit-in protest at the Coimbatore government hospital demanding implementation of Government Order 293 and demanded a pay hike by the Tamil Nadu government.

This sit-in protest is taking place across Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to reporters, Dr Ravishankar said that there has been an agitation demanding a pay hike for the doctors working in various medical institutions across Tamil Nadu, including in government primary health centres, government hospitals, medical colleges and so on.

He alleged that government order 293 has not been implemented even after two years of publication by the Tamil Nadu government. Despite repeated communications to the higher authorities concerned, no action has been taken.

In the coming month, along with the salary, appropriate incentives and salary increases should be given. The Tamil Nadu Government Doctors' Association has said that the sit-in protest will continue till the government order is implemented. According to doctors, the strike is going on so that there is no disturbance to the patients.
