The public have urged the health department to take immediate action as the dumping of poultry waste on the Mulanur-Chinnakkampatti roadside has led to the spread of infectious diseases.
Tiruppur: People have alleged that dumping of poultry waste on the Mulanur-Chinnakkampatti roadsides has put them at risk of spreading infectious diseases.
One of the major industries in Mulanur Town Panchayat area of Tirupur district is the rearing of broiler chicken. There are more than 10 poultry farms in and around Mulanur Chinnakkampatti alone.
Due to climate change, water logging in the farms during the rainy season and excessive or low intake of feed mixtures to the chickens causes high levels of diarrhoea in the birds.
Because farmers don't pay attention to it, the poultry growing on the farm dies in large numbers. The number swells especially during the rainy season. The farmers tie the birds in gunny bags and throw them on the roadsides. Sometimes they are dumped in the open. This causes the chickens to rot and stink in two to three days.
The dogs and crows in the area bite the gunny bags and the rotten chickens are lying on the road. This puts mosquitoes at risk of spreading the infection due to fly infestations.
Moreover, crows carry these rotten pieces of meat and put them in water tanks kept for the cattle in the gardens, causing diarrhoea in the cattle that drink this water.
Dogs that are accustomed to eating dead chickens start biting the sheep that are grazing if the chickens are not available. Due to this, the farmers are incurring huge losses.
According to the people of the area, the poultry farmers are trying to take action as they tie the dead chickens in gunny bags and throw them on the roadsides, which increases the foul smell and increases the mosquito breeding due to health hazards. This puts you at risk of spreading infectious diseases.
This leads to the spread of dengue fever. It is to be noted that despite repeated requests in this regard, there has been no progress and now the number of people coming to Mulanur PHC for treatment for fever has also increased.
Hence, the people of the area have demanded that the district administration and the health department should take immediate action.
