It's a sweet news for all Mango lovers in the city as the first batch of Mangoes has arrived in Coimbatore! Senthuram, Banganapalli Naduchalai, Imam Pasand and Alphonso are the varieties that have arrived in the first batch.
According to Shajahan, a wholesale trader from Ukkdam shares that “Unlike last year, this year the mangoes have arrived earlier for sales, however, the sale is yet to pick up pace. The failure of monsoons will impact the volume accompanied with a price hike, so this year we are uncertain about the sales.
Compared to last year, the first lot we have received is just one-thirds of last year's volume. Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri and Dharapuram are the prime places for mango cultivation and as drought has struck the entire state of Tamil Nadu, the quality and quantity of mangoes this year is questionable' said Shajahan.
Senthuram Rs. 60, Banganapalli Rs. 80, Naduchalai Rs. 60, Imam Pasand Rs. 150, Alphonso Rs. 120 are the rates at which these mangoes are sold in the wholesale market.
