Industrialists Protest for Cancellation of Electricity Tariff Hike

In Tiruppur, the Industrial Electricity Consumers Association organized a human chain protest against the hike in electricity tariffs and peak hour charges. Over a thousand participants from 37 industrial associations demanded dialogue with the Tamil Nadu government, emphasizing the dire impact on businesses.

Tirupur: A human chain protest was organized in Tirupur by the Industrial Electricity Consumers' Association, demanding the cancellation of the increased electricity tariff and peak hour charges.

The recent hikes in electricity rates and peak hour charges for industries have sparked several protests by the Industrial Electricity Consumers' Association. As part of these protests, a human chain was formed today from the Kumaran Statue to the Municipal Corporation in Tirupur. Approximately 37 associations from various industrial sectors participated, with more than a thousand people joining hands to oppose the tariff hike.

Key figures such as Muthu Rathinam, a leading exporter and manufacturer in Tirupur, and former leader Rajesh Shanmugam participated in the protest.

These 37 industrial associations have been conducting an eight-phase protest against the electricity tariff hike across Tamil Nadu. They express disappointment in the Tamil Nadu government's negligence of the industrial sector. "70% of businesses in Tiruppur have been shut down," the industrialists stated, urging the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to engage in dialogue with them. They warned that if they are not invited for discussions by the 10th, further protests will be announced.

The industrialists emphasized that the Tamil Nadu government should reduce the increased electricity tariffs, stressing that this protest was a call for action against the government's inaction and partial response to their requests.
