Coimbatore: In a significant move to bolster security, Coimbatore's suburban areas have been equipped with 500 CCTV cameras. The new surveillance system was inaugurated by West Zone IG Pavani Eswari. This initiative is part of an effort to enhance public safety and reduce crime rates in the region.
The integrated CCTV control room and a rest area for police personnel were opened at the Sulur Police Station, covering several rural areas under its jurisdiction. IG Pavani Eswari, DIG Saravana Sundar, District SP Badri Narayanan, and Inspector Maathaiyan officiated the inauguration.
IG Eswari highlighted the effectiveness of CCTV cameras in crime prevention. She noted that significant steps have been taken to increase the number of CCTV cameras across eight districts in the West Zone. Additionally, the contact numbers of police officers have been speed-dialed into the phones of senior citizens and residents in remote areas for quick access in emergencies.
The initiative is expected to greatly aid in the early detection and prevention of crimes. Public cooperation in maintaining and supporting the CCTV network was emphasized as crucial for the success of this security measure.
