Seshadri Road blocked

The Central Business District (CBD) was paralysed on Monday when thousands of Anganwadi workers from across the State took to the streets to demand a hike in minimum wages.

The protesters were supposed to camp in Freedom Park. However, at 11 a.m., they decided to block Seshadri Road. This disrupted traffic movement around the KSR Railway Station, K.G. Road and Anand Rao Circle.

According to the traffic police, normalcy was restored late in the evening.

The protesters camped overnight on the road.

The Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers’ Association has threatened to continue the protest until their wages are hiked by at least ₹4,000. Over 20 lakh persons, primarily women, work in Anganwadis to implement key schemes of the Centre and the State.
