Coimbatore Corpn Officials Seize 11 Tons of Banned Plastic Products

Coimbatore Municipal Corporation intensifies its crackdown on single-use plastics, seizing 11 tons of banned items and imposing fines totaling 25 lakhs on shop owners.

Coimbatore: Stepping up efforts to combat environmental pollution from single-use plastics, Coimbatore Municipal Corporation officials have been rigorously inspecting shops in the city and suburban areas.

As a result of these inspections, 11 tons of banned plastic products have been seized from various shops. This initiative aligns with the Tamil Nadu government's prohibition on 14 types of single-use plastic items, including plates and polythene covers. Since January, officials have conducted searches in 1,451 shops, leading to significant seizures and the imposition of fines totaling 25 lakh rupees on the shop owners for violating the ban.

This extensive drive underscores the Corporation's commitment to reducing plastic pollution and promoting environmental sustainability.
