Coimbatore Hosts Forum on 'The Current State of Indian Sovereignty and Democracy'

A significant seminar discussing the current state of Indian sovereignty and democracy was held in Coimbatore, organized by the Social Justice and Unorganized Workers' Associations.


Coimbatore: In a vital move to address current political and social issues, Coimbatore witnessed a seminar on 'The Current State of Indian Sovereignty and Democracy.' The event was jointly organized by the Construction and Unorganized Workers' Association and the Social Justice Association. Dr. G. Mohammed Rafiq, State General Secretary of the Social Justice Association, chaired the session at the Taj Tower on Sungam Bypass Road.

Prominent leaders including the State President Arumugam, State Action President Rama Venkatesan, Treasurer Aruldas, and District Administrators Parvesh and Maheshkumar, were present. The seminar featured discussions by Kaviyarasu Guru Nagalingam of the Trade Union Association and Ka.Su. Nagarasan of the Dravidian Movement Tamil Forum.



Key issues addressed included the threat to Indian sovereignty, the push for a singular language, government, and leader policy, and the central government's alleged negligence of state autonomy. Pon Kumar, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Workers' Welfare Board, stressed on the federal principle of unity in diversity, claiming that despite India's vast diversity in caste, religion, and ethnicity, its unity is unparalleled. He attributed this to the Indian Constitution and laws. Kumar also expressed concerns over the infringement of citizens' rights, urging people to respond in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The event also marked the inauguration of a new membership drive for the Construction and Unorganized Workers' Welfare Board.
