Coimbatore Drivers' Union Petitions Against Central Government's New Hit and Run Law

Coimbatore drivers' union demands revision of the new BNS 106/Hit and Run law, citing severe impact on livelihoods.

Coimbatore: Members of the Thainadu All Drivers' Union in Coimbatore have submitted a petition to the District Collector, seeking a revision of the Central Government's newly announced vehicle penalty law, BNS 106/Hit and Run.

The law, imposing a fine of Rs. 10 lakhs and a 7-year imprisonment for drivers causing hit and run accidents, has sparked discontent among truck, taxi, and other commercial vehicle drivers. They argue that the law adversely affects the livelihood of rental vehicle drivers and their families.

Union members assert that this legislation should be reconsidered and revoked, taking into account the financial and social impact on drivers and their families. They emphasize the need for a more balanced approach that protects victims while considering the drivers' circumstances.
