Badhrappan, a resident of Dasampalayam, Mettupalayam and a senior member of the Communist Party of India and an expert in Valli Kummi art for over 60 years, has been honored with the Padma Shri award.
Coimbatore: Badhrappan, a resident of Dasampalayam near Mettupalayam and a senior member of the Communist Party of India, has been a practitioner and promoter of the traditional Valli Kummi art form for more than 60 years.
Recognizing his artistic talent and dedication, the Government of Tamil Nadu had previously honored him with the Kalaimamani Award. This year, the Union Government announced that Badhrappan will be awarded the prestigious Padma Shri.
Upon hearing the news, E. Arumugam, ex-MLA and State Treasurer of the Communist Party of India, along with Coimbatore District Secretary C. Sivasamy, District Executive Committee Member K. Venkatachalam, Shanti Chandran, Coimbatore Central Zone Deputy Secretary A.P. Manibharathi, Karamadai West Committee Secretary Rangasamy, Mettupalayam Urban Committee Deputy Secretary Mansoor, and Selvaraj congratulated Badhrappan by presenting him with a shawl and offering their best wishes.
