Coimbatore: In a significant crackdown on the use of banned plastic, Coimbatore Municipal Corporation officials carried out a series of inspections across different areas of the city. One of the key areas inspected was the Coimbatore Flower Market, where the officials conducted a thorough check on January 29.

During the inspection, the authorities found that out of 142 shops in the market, 115 were in possession of banned plastic bags. A total of 17.800 kilograms of these plastic bags were confiscated. Subsequently, the shop owners were penalized for violating the plastic ban, resulting in a total fine of 24,600 rupees being imposed.

This operation is part of the municipal corporation’s ongoing efforts to enforce the ban on plastic, aiming to reduce environmental pollution and promote sustainable practices. The significant seizure of plastic bags in a major commercial hub like the flower market highlights the widespread use of these banned materials and the necessity for stringent enforcement.
