Marking Thai Amavasai, more than 500 farmers from Udumalai and surrounding areas, including Pollachi, Dharapuram, and Kinathukadavu, participated in a special worship at Thirumoorthimalai Amanalingeswarar Temple, bringing their cattle for blessings.

Udumalai: In a vibrant display of tradition and faith, over a thousand farmers convened at the Thirumoorthimalai Amanalingeswarar Temple near Udumalai to observe Thai Amavasai, bringing with them more than 500 bullock carts for a special worship. This ancient practice, deeply rooted in the wisdom of ancestors, believes that visiting the temple with cattle on this auspicious day ensures the animals' health and longevity without disease. The event saw a massive gathering from Udumalai, Pollachi, Dharapuram, Kinathukadavu, and nearby villages, all converging in a procession to the temple, emphasizing the cultural importance of cattle, especially the Kangayam breed, in the region's agrarian lifestyle.

Farmers shared their reasons for participation, echoing generations of advice that such practices significantly contribute to their cattle's well-being and the prosperity of their farms. "We have followed this tradition for many years, as our elders have told us that it brings good fortune and health to our cattle, ensuring their continued contribution to our livelihood," explained Gopal, a local farmer.

Another farmer, Karthik, mentioned, "This tradition not only helps in keeping our cattle healthy but also plays a crucial role in preserving our native breeds. It's a testament to our respect for nature and its beings."

The temple, known for its serene ambiance and spiritual significance, attracted farmers who seek blessings for their agricultural endeavors. In addition to the religious ceremony, special buses were operated from Udumalai to Thirumoorthimalai to facilitate the transportation of devotees and their cattle to the temple, highlighting the community's collective effort in sustaining this age-old tradition.

The celebration of Thai Amavasai at the Thirumoorthimalai Amanalingeswarar Temple stands as a vibrant reminder of the deep-rooted cultural practices that continue to shape the lives of farmers in Tamil Nadu, reinforcing the bond between agriculture, faith, and traditional wisdom in rural communities.
