Kaviyaruvi Falls Closed Due to Reduced Water Flow - Forest Department

The Forest Department has announced the closure of Kaviyaruvi Waterfall (Monkey Falls) near Aliyar Dam, Pollachi, starting yesterday due to reduced water flow caused by the lack of rainfall and increasing heat in the Western Ghats.

Pollachi: The Forest Department has officially announced the closure of the Kaviyaruvi Waterfall, (Monkey Falls) a popular tourist spot located near the Aliyar Dam in the foothills of the Western Ghats, effective from today, February 15. The closure comes as a response to the reduced water supply to the falls, attributed to the lack of rainfall and increasing temperatures in the region as summer approaches.

Kaviyaruvi, known for attracting tourists from various parts of the state and beyond for its scenic beauty and natural setting, has seen a drastic reduction in water levels, leaving the site dry and unsuitable for visits. This measure has been taken to preserve the natural resources and safety of visitors, as the area is currently facing a drought situation.

The Forest Department's decision to close the waterfall was made after observing a significant decrease in water flow to the falls, making it impossible for tourists to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational activities usually offered. The department has indicated that the waterfall will be reopened to the public once the water flow resumes to a level that ensures a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors.

The closure has led to disappointment among tourists, many of whom were unaware of the situation and had traveled to the site only to be turned back at the Aliyar Forest Department checkpoint. The Forest Department advises potential visitors to stay informed about the status of the waterfall and other natural attractions in the area, especially during periods of environmental stress.

The Department remains hopeful that the upcoming monsoon season will restore the water levels, allowing the Kaviyaruvi Waterfall to welcome visitors once again in the near future.
