People living on pavement cut their hands to draw attention of authorities.

Tense situation prevailed in the Collectorate for a brief time, as close to 30 families of people belonging to the Kuruva Community slashed themselves with whips and scratched their hands with blades, as a reminder for their long-pending plea of allocating free homes for them.

On March 13th, the same group of people petitioned the District Collector to provide free homes for them as they are unable to continue living in the Platforms of Gandhipark area. 'Our children are unable to go to schools because of our pathetic state of living. The Government has been allocating free land pattas and homes for people like us but our plea has still not been heard' cried the people.

They also stated that they would intensify their protests if their genuine pleas are left unaddressed.
