Congress leader Bhagavathi condemns the Central Government's failure to regulate GST, severely affecting small and medium enterprises in Tiruppur, turning it from Dollar City to just a city. Calls for the implementation of Bharat Oil project for coconut farmers.
Coimbatore: In a recent meeting held by the Coimbatore South District Congress Committee in Pollachi, Venkatramanan Street, leader Bhagavathi voiced a strong critique against the Central Government for not regulating the GST imposition, which has drastically impacted small and medium-scale industries in cities like Tiruppur. Following the meeting, Bhagavathi addressed the press, highlighting the significant downturn in employment opportunities due to the exodus of businesses from the area. This, according to Bhagavathi, has led to Tiruppur, once known as Dollar City, being reduced to merely a city now.
He further pointed out the plight of coconut farmers, urging the Central Government to procure copra directly from them and market it as Bharat Oil. Despite these calls for action, the government has yet to implement the Bharat Oil project. Bhagavathi also slammed the government for the public's suffering due to rising fuel and gas prices, stressing the overall negative impact on the common people.
