Theft at Petrol Station Near Udumalai Shocks Workers, Police Investigate

In a clever theft at a private petrol station near Udumalai, on the Udumalai-Palani highway, two individuals made off with Rs. 10,000 while a worker was distracted.


Coimbatore: A private petrol station operating along the Udumalai-Palani highway near Palappampatti, Udumalai, has been the scene of a novel theft. In addition to selling petrol, the station also offers soft drinks to its customers. In the early hours of yesterday, around 1:30 AM, two individuals arrived at the station on a motorcycle, seeking to refuel. After receiving petrol and paying for it, they requested soft drinks, citing thirst.



While the employee was engaged in fetching the drinks and processing the payment, placing the cash inside the cash box, the individuals seized a moment when the employee was momentarily distracted and stole Rs. 10,000 from the cash box. They fled the scene before the theft could be noticed.

The shocked employees promptly informed the owner via cell phone. Following this, the owner reported the incident to the Udumalai police. Arriving swiftly at the location, the police have initiated an investigation, relying on the surveillance camera footage from the petrol station to identify the mysterious culprits, their origins, and the route of their escape. The incident has caused quite a stir in the Palappampatti area, with local residents and business owners on high alert.
