Water Pipeline Disruption Causes Stir in Tirupur's Kangayam Road

Council member Kannappan engaged in a heated argument with highway department officials over the disruption of drinking water supply to residences due to negligence in road expansion works on Tirupur's Kangayam Road.

Tirupur: A controversy erupted in Tirupur's 44th ward, which falls under the jurisdiction of the city municipal corporation, due to the disruption of drinking water supply lines. The incident occurred during road expansion works by the highway department on the road connecting Dharapuram to Kangayam Road, impacting about 2000 homes. During the night operations, approximately 8 main water supply lines were reportedly severed, leading to a significant uproar among the local populace.

Council member Kannappan raised the issue with highway department officials, accusing them of negligence for not coordinating with the city municipal corporation and the water supply and drainage board to prevent damage to the pipelines. Despite prior instructions to undertake road construction works with caution to avoid damaging the pipelines, continuous negligence led to repeated disruptions in the water supply for the past month, making it impossible to provide regular drinking water to the public.

The situation escalated into a dispute with the involvement of police and other officials, who assured that the damaged water pipelines would be repaired before proceeding with further construction works. However, despite continuous reminders from the city administration, the highway department has been accused of persistent negligence.

The local residents and council members have warned that if the situation persists, they would organize protests against the highway department and the contractor responsible for the oversight, demanding immediate action to ensure such disruptions do not occur in the future.
