Residents of Vellikuppam Palayam Stage Road Blockade Demanding Drinking Water

Locals in Vellikuppam Palayam, Palladam Panchayat, blocked the Sirumugai - Annur road on March 21, protesting over 10 days without drinking water supply, dispersed after assurances from officials.

Coimbatore: In a decisive action fueled by prolonged distress, residents of Vellikuppam Palayam in Palladam Panchayat took to the Sirumugai - Annur road on March 21, creating a road blockade in protest against the lack of drinking water supply for over 10 days.

The sudden demonstration brought to light the critical water shortage faced by the community, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. Panchayat Leader Sivakumar, Deputy Leader Surendran, and officers from the Sirumugai Police Station were quick to address the situation upon learning of the blockade.

After discussions with the protesters, the officials assured that measures would be swiftly taken to restore the water supply to the area. Following these assurances, the aggrieved community members disbanded the blockade, hopeful that their demands would soon be met.

This incident underscores the essential need for adequate water provision in rural areas and the lengths to which residents must sometimes go to secure basic utilities. It also highlights the responsiveness of local authorities when faced with urgent community grievances.
