Woman Commits Suicide in Dharapuram Sub Court Premises Over Property Dispute

In Dharapuram, a 60-year-old woman, Govindammal, committed suicide by self-immolation in the sub court premises following a property dispute with her family.

Coimbatore: A tragic incident unfolded in the Dharapuram Sub Court premises where Govindammal, aged 60, committed suicide by consuming poison and setting herself on fire, amidst an ongoing property dispute with her family. The incident took place today, causing shock among the locals.

Govindammal, a resident of Thekkalur in Tirupur district, was embroiled in a property dispute with her father Ramasamy and her brothers Balasubramani and Eeswaramoorthy. The case was under consideration at the Dharapuram Rights Court and was recently dismissed last week, leading to distress for Govindammal.

Upon her arrival at the court today, Govindammal consumed poison in the premises and subsequently poured kerosene on herself, igniting a fire. Unfortunately, efforts by bystanders to save her were in vain.

Dharapuram police have taken custody of the body for further investigation. The police spokesperson stated that Govindammal had initiated a partition lawsuit in the court relating to family property. Following the dismissal of her appeal last week, she was reportedly distraught, leading to her drastic actions in front of the Vinayagar temple within the court premises.

This suicide case highlights a tragic outcome of prolonged legal and familial strife, reflecting the severe mental toll such disputes can impose.
