Two New Water Channels Constructed for Agrahara Samakulam in Coimbatore

Coimbatore's Agrahara Samakulam lake is being renovated to add two more water channels to facilitate better water inflow, improving irrigation and local ecology.

Coimbatore: Agrahara Samakulam, covering an area of 165 acres near Kovilpalayam in Coimbatore, is undergoing significant refurbishments under the Water Resources Organization. Initially sustaining five water channels, recent surveys have uncovered the presence of two additional channels.

As a result, on April 16, volunteers employed machinery to remove debris, mounds of soil, and shrubbery blocking these paths. This clean-up operation has resulted in a total of seven functional water channels for Agrahara Samakulam. With the new channels, there is a greater likelihood of the lake filling up more easily, which is a reason for joy among locals, farmers, and volunteers.

Efforts continue to further restore the lake, with proactive appeals for more volunteers to support the ongoing rehabilitation works.
