Air Passenger Traffic Marks Notable Increase in Tamil Nadu in FY 2023-24

Recent data reveals a significant rise in air passenger traffic across major Tamil Nadu cities in FY 2023-24, with Coimbatore recording a 13.6% increase.

Coimbatore: Recent fiscal year statistics demonstrate a notable increase in air passenger traffic throughout Tamil Nadu. For the fiscal year 2023-24, major cities including Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, and Salem have shown impressive growth, contrasting with a slight decrease in Tuticorin.

Chennai led the growth with 2,12,07,262 passengers, marking a 14.2% increase from last year's 1,85,71,393. Coimbatore followed, with the numbers rising from 25,57,263 in FY 2022-23 to 29,04,611 this year, accounting for a growth of 13.6%. Trichy and Madurai also exhibited significant growth rates of 16.5% and 13.0% respectively, despite the overall modest air traffic figures compared to the other cities.

In stark contrast, Tuticorin saw a slight reduction in its traffic, with a 1.4% decrease, totaling 1,99,761 passengers. Meanwhile, Salem displayed an extraordinary surge, albeit from a much lower base, increasing from 318 passengers in FY 2022-23 to 42,568 this fiscal year.

These trends reflect not only the recovering aviation sector in the state but also signal a potential strategic shift towards enhancing regional connectivity and bolstering economic development through increased mobility.
