Intensified Surveillance at Checkpoints in Coimbatore Due to Bird Flu Concerns

Surveillance at 12 checkpoints along the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border in Coimbatore has been intensified due to fears of bird flu spreading from Kerala. The second day sees strict monitoring and disinfection.

Coimbatore: As a precaution against the H5N1 bird flu that has affected poultry in Kerala, intensive surveillance continues at 12 checkpoints along the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border in Coimbatore District. This marks the second consecutive day, April 21, where vehicles are only permitted entry after thorough disinfection. The action follows reports of bird flu potentially spreading to Tamil Nadu, prompting local authorities to prevent any risk by disinfecting vehicles from affected areas and maintaining round-the-clock vigilance.
