Mettupalayam Resident Charged Under Goondas Act for Attempted Murder

In Mettupalayam, Coimbatore, Mohan Kumar alias Mokkai Mohan, 19, has been detained under the Goondas Act following an attempted murder due to previous enmity.

Coimbatore: In a recent clampdown under the Goondas Act, Mohan Kumar alias Mokkai Mohan, a 19-year-old resident of Mettupalayam, has been charged for his involvement in an attempted murder case. The incident stemmed from an old enmity with Ramachandran, the son of Ayyavu, who also resides in the Mettupalayam area.

The Mettupalayam police had previously arrested and imprisoned Kumar for attempting to murder Ramachandran. District Superintendent of Police Badrinarayanan recommended action under the stringent provisions of the Goondas Act considering Kumar's continued criminal activities and their impact on public peace and order. Following this, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati ordered proceedings against Kumar under the Goondas Act based on the recommendation. Kumar was then detained on April 26th under the Act in connection with the attempted murder.

District Superintendent of Police Badrinarayana has issued a warning that actions under the Goondas Act will continue against those who compromise public tranquility. So far this year, 22 individuals in the Coimbatore district have been charged under this act.
