Village Assistant in Udumalai Suspended Following Suicide Incident

In Udumalai, Tirupur district, Village Assistant Chitra was suspended after being linked to the suicide of a village administrative officer, Karuppusamy, whose death note accused her and another individual.

Coimbatore: A village assistant from Kanakkampalayam in Udumalai, Tirupur district, named Chitra, was abruptly suspended after a contentious issue arose following the suicide of Karuppusamy, a village administrative officer. The incident, which transpired on April 23, initially catalogued as a suicide, took a decisive turn following the emergence of a death note. Karuppusamy had been found deceased at his residence in Koolanaickenpatti. Upon discovery, Komangalam police recorded the case as suicide.

The situation escalated the following day when Karuppusamy's relatives, Elavarasan and Gokul Sandhuru, presented a note supposedly written by him to the Revenue Divisional Officer Jaswant Kannan in Udumalai. In the note, Karuppusamy blamed Chitra and another assistant, Makkal Mithran Maniyan, for his demise, prompting an investigation shift from suicide to abetment to suicide by the Gomangalam police.

Amid the investigation, village administrators and local community members demanded justice for Karuppusamy, engaging in protests and a sit-in. In a recent move, the Assistant Revenue Officer in Udumalai issued a suspension notice to Chitra, which was publicly posted in front of her house. Additionally, Komangalam police have formed special teams to apprehend Chitra and Maniyan, the two accused of inciting Karuppusamy's suicide.
