Starting May 4, 25 special buses will operate between Coimbatore and Ooty to facilitate travel during the annual Summer Festival. The festival commences with a Flower Show at the Ooty Botanical Gardens.
Coimbatore: To accommodate the influx of tourists visiting the Nilgiris for the annual Summer Festival, the Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation has announced the operation of 25 special buses from Coimbatore to Ooty starting tomorrow, May 4. These buses aim to manage the increased travel demand during the festival season, which features a prominent Flower Show at the Ooty Botanical Gardens. The show, starting on the 10th of May and lasting until the 20th, is expected to attract large crowds from various parts of Tamil Nadu.
The decision comes amid expectations of heavy visitor turnout at the Flower Show, which marks the beginning of the Summer Festival. Tourists often travel to Ooty via Coimbatore, making it a hub for transit to the hill station. Recognizing the potential for overcrowding in usual transports, the special bus services will enhance connectivity between Coimbatore, Ooty, and surrounding areas such as Koodalur.
Adding to this, a recent High Court order mandates travelers to the Nilgiris to carry an e-pass from June 7 to June 30. This regulation is expected to increase the reliance on public transportation, as personal vehicles might be limited. The Traffic Corporation officials emphasized that the introduction of additional buses will help avoid congestion and ensure a smoother travel experience for all attendees of the Ooty Summer Festival.
